Saint Michael’s Pen Pals

This year our class will be participating in a pen pal exchange with Saint Michael’s College Athletes. We will be communicating with them through email. This is a great opportunity for students to practice their writing skills as well as make connections to members of our college community. Permission slips will be coming home with student’s tomorrow. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Picture Retakes Tomorrow

Tomorrow is picture retake day at MBS. If you would like a retake please send the original photos back with your child. He/She will have their pictures taken in the morning.

Four Winds- Thank you to our four wind parents for our lesson on the differences between all sort of insects. Students were able to identify the characteristics of a variety of insects. We even learned a new song!

October 5th

We have had a busy two weeks here in Room 180.

Math– Students have been practicing showing their work by using more than one strategy. I stressed how its not always important to get an answer correct, but to show how you solved a problem. Students will continue to be asked to demonstrate their thinking by showing the mathematical strategies they used. It has been great to see how differently they approach a problem. Students completed their first math unit. They will be taking their first math assessment tomorrow.

Reading– Students have been practicing finding evidence to support their characterization traits. I have been encouraging them to go back into their readings to find dialogue, actions, and descriptions to support their trait statements.  We read Cinderella Skeleton together to illustrate just how important a setting is to a story.

Writing: Students have begun writing narratives. They were partnered up to T.A.G. their story ideas. T.A.G. stands for:

T- Tell the writer something you liked- and why!
A- Ask a question.
G- Give a helpful suggestion

Science: Students began their study of Force & Motion. This week’s focus: Does mass matter? Does the height of an object on a ramp effect the distance it travels?

We have a missing recorder that might have ended up in the wrong back pack. If found please return to school tomorrow.

If you have any empty shoe boxes or the inside of a toilet paper or paper towel tubes we are taking donations for our 4th grade Summit House Challenge.
