Duct Tape Wallets/ Writer’s Notebooks

Thank you to everyone that donated duct tape and stickers for our class. We had a lot of fun this afternoon creating duct tape wallets and decorating our writer’s notebooks. We will continue to finish up both activities on Monday morning.

Students also came home with a password sheet of all of their passwords to our online sites. These may be kept at home.

Operation Back to School

Welcome Back to
School 2019-2020

Dear Families,

“Operation Back to School” is well under way. Our class appears ready, willing, and able to start the new school year off on the right foot. We are working hard at developing routines and getting to know one another…… so far, so good!

As I indicated in my summer letter to your child, this year will be different than last. It will be an exciting and challenging one as the children ready themselves for “upper grades.”  Along with this comes increased student responsibilities, challenges,
and heightened teacher expectations. We will be working collaboratively to build a solid academic foundation for success this year. For some children this is an easy transition… for others, it may be a bit more difficult. It is important to be patient, positive, and most of all supportive! Kids tend to rise to the occasion. If you are at all concerned about your child’s transition into fourth grade, please do not hesitate to call me.  This is a team effort; communication is critical throughout the year.

Although I will be seeing you at our open house (September 26th), I thought it might be helpful to touch base with you ahead of time. Many important notices are going home this week and will continue to go home next week. Please make sure to
check your child’s bag each night. We work very hard at getting papers into our homework binders, but what happens between school and home is sometimes a mystery!!!!

Our Unified Arts classes will meet from 12:35- 1:20 pm each day The schedule is as follows:

Tuesdays/Fridays- Physical Education w/ Mrs. Eastman

Mondays/Thursdays– Art with Mrs. Terracino (1st & 3rd quarter)

Music with Mr. Mast (2nd & 4th quarter)

Wednesdays – Library with Mrs. Oglesby (2st & 4rd quarter)

Wednesdays – Guidance w/ Mrs. Peltier (1st & 3rd quarters)

Homework: Homework is sent home weekly each Friday and due the following Friday. Students are responsible for reading a total of 80 minutes per week, practicing spelling three times a week, and math skills three times a week. Math practice can be online (Dreambox, Prodigy or Xtra Math drills) or through paper practice (sent home weekly with our Homework Log.) Math practice can also be a combination of both online and paper practice.

This week students have been assigned Reading and Math practice only. We will start spelling practice the following week. All homework is due the following Friday.

I have enjoyed getting to know your children these past two weeks and I am looking forward to a great year!!!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Chittenden
