News & Notes 9/14

These past two weeks have been busy filled with community building games, learning new routines, assessments, and having fun! Please scroll down to see lots of pictures of Challengers hard at work!

Math: Students practiced rounding large numbers and place value.

Reading: This week we talked about our classroom library rules and the difference between challenging, just right, and easy books. Students were given a reading assessment and practiced independent reading.

We created Duct tape wallets. Thank you for all of your classroom donations! Students will use their wallets to collect their Monster Money in this year.

Our class was given the “Toothpaste Challenge” last week. They had to get all of their toothpaste back in the tube using only toothpicks. After this activity, our class had a good discussion about the power of our words. Once something hurtful is said, it is hard to take these words back. Words were like the toothpaste which was impossible to put back in the tube. We had an open discussion about our feelings when “toothpaste” words are said and what to do when we feel we may say these words ourselves. I was impressed with how respectful and open our class was.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Open House on Thursday!
